How do you access the Skills Kitchen service?

How do you access the Skills Kitchen service?

  • All learners are asked to arrange a visit to the site, to discuss their skills, meet the team and be assessed for suitability.
  • To progress an application, a recent care / support plan must be shared along with a proposal for funding.
  • Proposed learner to then arrange a ‘Taster Session’ to experience the service and see if it is right for them! 
  •  If suitability is agreed, formal application to be made.

  • 18 years of age and above.
  •  Have a learning disability, neurodiversity  or autism, and have identified & assessed needs.
  •  Are interested and willing to participate in the cooking sessions. 
  • Able to engage in activities with supervision in a group or have appropriate 1:1 support identified and in place.

Communications

General communications about service delivery or communications with carers and representees of learners will be done by email, as part of our paperless initiative.  We have a contact number for parents & carers when trainees start with us but please  be aware that Skills Kitchen is operational and phone calls will not be taken during session times. Please leave a short message  with you name, trainees name  & contact phone number, we check regularly and will get back to you.

 Please do not bring valuable items to Skills Kitchen . We will not accept responsibility for valuable items lost, misplaced or in the worst case stolen whilst at the kitchen.  We have a secure place  to store personal effects during the sessions , plus  a  lost property box and will endeavour to reunite items with their owners.

Our policy is that we can supervise self-administration of oral medication only.

We are happy to store daily medication dose for that day only in a safe place. 

You must provide written instructions of how and when the medication is to be taken and in case of emergency, the name of the medication and dose.  

We have a first-aid kit available at all times.
